The Art of Soothing – A Gentle Revolution in Skincare

The Art of Soothing – A Gentle Revolution in Skincare

On the afternoon of 25 April 2025, NỮ DOANH NHÂN – BusinessWoman Magazine, in collaboration with Sisley Paris, successfully hosted a special skincare seminar titled “The Art of Soothing – A Gentle Revolution in Skincare”. The event drew considerable attention from industry professionals, beauty enthusiasts, and dermatologists, centring on an increasingly relevant topic in modern dermatology: caring for sensitive skin.

Held in the warm, elegant setting of Sedona Suites Saigon, the programme unfolded as an intimate and heartfelt gathering – bringing together dermatologists, beauty community guests, and representatives from Sisley Paris, united by a shared mission: to listen to the skin and address the root causes of its vulnerabilities.

Moderator Dr Nguyễn Thị Thùy Liên

Host Kim Tuyến

Guided by host Kim Tuyến and moderator Dr Nguyễn Thị Thùy Liên, the panel discussion, titled “Sensitive Skin – What We Overlook”, offered unfiltered insights into the complex nature of sensitive skin – from seemingly “invisible” triggers such as stress, sleep, and hormonal imbalances, to modern approaches in treatment and recovery.

Diverse Perspectives: Rethinking Sensitive Skin

Dr Loan Huỳnh

Opening the panel, Dr Loan Huỳnh noted a shift towards minimalism in both skincare and treatment routines – a response to the demands of contemporary living. With her experience managing a chain of clinics, she emphasised that simplicity is key to an effective at-home skincare routine.

Dr Nguyễn Thanh Trường

Dr Nguyễn Thanh Trường, with over 20 years of experience and representing various global brands in Vietnam, shared common treatment methods for sensitive skin such as chemical peels, lasers, and low-dose retinoids – highlighting the importance of dosage and consistency: “With sensitive skin, I often prioritise low-energy IPL to both refine the skin’s surface and enhance hydration. For retinol, concentrations between 0.1% and 0.3% are sufficient for skin regeneration without irritation – yet many overuse 0.5% or 1%, forgetting that just 0.1% can already stimulate cell renewal. The difference in effect is only noticeable within the first 4–6 weeks; afterwards, the concentration matters far less. The key is consistency and patience”.

Dr Nguyễn Thị Phương Trang

Adding another layer, Dr Nguyễn Thị Phương Trang outlined principles to avoid crossing the safety threshold when treating sensitive skin over time: “First, individualisation is critical – there’s no one-size-fits-all formula. Treatment protocols must be tailored with the appropriate energy level or peeling concentration. Secondly, reduce the frequency of invasive procedures for sensitive skin to allow proper recovery. Lastly, post-treatment skincare is essential, using products that reinforce the skin’s barrier”.

Dr Hoa Thị Mỹ Linh

Dr Hoa Thị Mỹ Linh contributed insights into truly effective active ingredients that are not only gentle but also support deep skin recovery: “We’re flooded with cosmetic claims, but few products are clinically proven. For sensitive skin, I prioritise ingredients like ceramides for barrier repair and hydration, polysaccharides for their biological protective film, and growth factors such as EGF and HGF post-laser or peel to speed up regeneration. I often combine these with fatty acids and cholesterol to boost results”.

Dr Nguyễn Thị Ái Trâm

Addressing whether treatment approaches in developed countries are applicable to Asian skin and climates, Dr Nguyễn Thị Ái Trâm – who has trained in South Korea and Singapore – offered: “European skin tends to need more moisture, but Asian skin has different needs – darker tones, higher UV exposure, and more sensitivity to sun damage. In Vietnam, beyond repairing the skin barrier, products must be lightweight, non-comedogenic, and protect the skin’s microbiome to keep it stable and healthy”.

Dr Đỗ Trịnh Kim Phụng

From a practical consumer perspective, Dr Đỗ Trịnh Kim Phụng discussed navigating the overwhelming number of “soothing” products on the market: “The cosmetic landscape evolves rapidly, making it easy to get lost. The most important thing is to understand your own skin. If your skin is inflamed, choose a product with anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties. For post-procedure skin, opt for intensive recovery formulas. Always patch test behind the ear or on the wrist. Stick to reputable brands with clinical backing, and most importantly, trust your skin – if it stings or feels wrong, stop using it”.

Sisley’s Science Behind Soothing

Following the expert panel, Ms Bảo Vy – Training Representative of Sisley Paris – introduced the brand’s approach to researching and developing the Sensitive Skin Soothing Care range.

Ms Bảo Vy – Training Representative of Sisley Paris

Her presentation addressed practical questions posed by MC Kim Tuyến, Dr Thùy Liên, and the audience:

  • How can we soothe the skin correctly within a minimalist skincare routine?
  • Which ingredients truly make a difference?
  • And how do we personalise skincare to suit individual biology?

Two-Way Engagement: Real Experience, Long-Term Connection

To conclude the seminar, guests were invited to participate in an on-site product experience – exploring textures, absorption, and sharing personal feedback with fellow guests, beauty advisors, and medical experts. These hands-on moments deepened the connection between the brand and its community in an authentic and lasting way.
